credit card application

I tried applying for the Tesco credit card with 19 months 0% interest but got stopped in my tracks when the application asked for a landline number. I do not have a landline phone and am very frustrated that I need one in order to proceed. Can anyone suggest a way to get a credit card with a small overdraft where I do not have to have a landline?

Try entering a series of 0000000's and see if you can continue with the application

I've just done a dummy application and it doesn't look like you need to enter a home telephone number...a mobile appears to satisfy them.

Did you get all the way to 'submit your application' and it asked you to go back and enter one? Or just panic when you saw the field?
  • I got all the way to the end of the application, put my mobile in the landline number box and it was refused. I'll try put in a few 0000000000's and see what happens.

Put in a made up, but realistic, number if it won't accept zeros. I don't allow CC companies to have my phone number. There's no (good) reason for them to have it.
  • Thanks for all your suggestions, I tried again and it turns out a mobile number was good enough :-)

  • Traditionally a landline is supposed to mean you are more ''settled'' at your address rather than just having a mobile. In theory they fear that you will up sticks and leave without paying.
Good for you that you persisted and that it worked out for you.

I guess credit card applications are a few decades out of date with is happening with people and communications today.
