Backing up photos.

Have loads of photos which I always save on facebook as well as on my phone or laptop. What's best method of having a permanent and safe place to store them all though?

Not completely permanent (but then I'm not sure any method is) but in addition to backing up on an external harddrive when I remember, I use Flickr to store my photos and all the photos can be downloaded in their original size.

My photos get backed up to an external NAS drive in a RAID1 configuration which provides protection against a hard drive failure. The NAS I use also allows backup to a portable drive for off-site storage.

On top of that, my phone and tablet are set to automatically backup pictures to DropBox and Google.
  • Another vote for Google. I use Picasa, you can set albums to private or if you want to share one with family/friends you can set it to only be visible to people you've sent a link to.

Get a free Dropbox account. I have 50gb of free space. Plenty for photos

This ^^^ I have 80% of everything on my additional hard-drive. Costs between £45 and £80 depending on the size.

I back them up on computer and cd, then I upload to a site such as snapfish and into private albums that only I can see on Facebook.
  • How does that work with the facebook copyright thing though? Don't they claim that everything you 'publish' through fb belongs to them? Or have they changed that since I last checked?
They call me Dr Worm... I'm interested in things; I'm not a real doctor but I am a real worm.

Mine are backed up on Photobucket but I'm getting increasingly frustrated with Photobucket as theres a lot of ads popping up all over the place so my phone automatically backs them up onto my google+ account as well.

Stuff I don't want online such as household stuff goes on my memory stick

It's not changed but, when you upload, all you grant Facebook is the licence to use your images. The copyright is retained by you.

I had been thinking of starting a Dropbox account for photos but if it's a 50GB limit, that won't last very long...
