Suitable mattress for day bed

We have just got a day bed frame that needs a mattress. It is a single standard 3ft size.

This will be used as a seat during the day and as a guest bed when needed so am not sure about the edges that will need to cope with being sat on.

Any recommendations as to type of mattress as well as make and model. Also what to keep clear of.

Thanks

As most mattress are designed to be laid on there are very few on the market that'll do the job and last well if being used as a seat.

Having said that depending on budget you have a few options. The cheapest method would be an all foam mattress, either memory foam or just a slab of foam.

You can purchase mattresses that have a firmer edge, some companies put in a butterfly type spring between the top and bottom rod edge on the sides.

Or look for mattresses that are foam encapsulated, as the construction will be springs in the middle surrounded by foam. This I guess is the dearest option.

But will be very hard I guess, maybe too hard as a seat. Mattress topper over the top of it to soften it maybe?

Thanks very much - that's just the information we wanted. We''ll probably go for the foam option and your suggestion seems good value.

Not sure what your sitting/sleeping ratio will be? My daughter had one of these and it wasn't that comfy for just sitting, the back is very upright and even through lots if cushions you could feel the bars.

The day bed will go in the sun room so will not get much use though I am assured by the two main potential users it will be mainly used in lounging/sprawled out mode and not much sitting upright! It will get very little use as an actual bed as we have both single and double guest bedrooms upstairs.
