Daughter left college, can she claim JSA?

My daughter, aged 18, finished her course at the college. She is now at home looking for a job. She has applied to a university to do a course but feels her grades from the exams won't be high enough.
Can she claim JSA now? Or does she have to wait for her grades to come out and see if she can get a place at the university?

Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems
Well at least i learn something on the way

Are you still getting child benefit and child tax credits for her?
Your daughter cannot claim JSA if you are still receiving these.
You can end the claim so she can claim JSA if you wish.
If she applies for JSA it is best not to mention that she has applied for university as they will be expecting her to job seek.0 -
As long as her college course has officially finished, then she should be able to claim even if she is going to uni. However as already pointed out, if you are claiming any child related benefits these will cease if she claims JSA.0

Wont make a difference. She can still job seek if shes going to uni. Her claim wont be rejected just because she is applying to go to uni in a few months time.0 -

Whilst you are absolutely correct there was a previous thread on here not long ago where the JSA applicant was going to university in the September and Job Centre Plus were a little 'shirty ' about it. Made him sign on more frequently. Having said there didn't seem to be much of the job seeking attitude in his case!
And yes, she can job seek but the likelihood of being offered a job just for the summer holidays is slim. Far better to find a temporary job herself.
having said that the OP's daughter hasn't been accepted yet (I believe) so a bit of a different scenario.
At the moment those claiming JSA are having to meet more and more demands and I can fully understand that those claiming for a short period because they are off to university are coming under close scrutiny.
Since the OP hasn't returned it is possible that she/he are still claiming CB/CTC for her.0 -
JSA for under 25s is £57 something per week. So if the OP is claiming more in ctc / cb, it won't be bworth stopping the claiming and the daughter claiming JSA.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

Thanks for the info. Will check how much CTC and CB I am getting in total. To be honest at the moment can't be bothered to go through helping her fill in the JSA forms yet. Will wait till mid Aug for her results to come out.Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems
