    2 years.

I would suggest that if you do take the reduced hours that you make it written into the contract that redundancy is at old hours if it occurs and that this is only a temporary change of contract until X.

Otherwise the redundancy will be worked out on the new contractual hours.

So, if I'm doing 16 hours a week, if he can fins - at the very least - say an 8 hour shift at the local pub (or whatever) to tide us over while he looks for something permanent, that will mean we keep our WTC and I can keep working?

If we lose our WTC I will lose my job too.

    Can they do this?

OK, so today when he went into work the boss said, briefly, in passing, that there's no work for him except two days next week. So the reduced hours start from now, without any official change in contract or notice or agreement. That's not right surely? He's on PAYE and his contract is for a full time job.

He was given the impression last night that he would be able to chose between redundancy and reduced hours, that he would have at least a little time to come back with an answer, and that everyone else would hear the announcement about people being laid off at the same time. But the boss didn't even speak to him properly, he just said there's no work for him next week.

But no, he's still not allowed to tell people what's going on behind the scenes. He had to tell people he was having his hours cut without being able to share that they'll be next (although to be fair they're not daft and everyone knows what probably happening).

    The whole thing sucks.

    It's not right is it?

It sounds as though he doesn't have many rights having worked less than 2 years. A good resource I have used is ACAS. They can tell you exactly what your /his rights are. Citizens advice bureau is another resource.

I found this which might help you
