    Before you format it they will probably want to see it as it is to test.

    DBAN boot and nuke you need a cd writer though or boot fro a usb stick.

    Have you spoken to Toshiba support as its under warranty they will help you call the support and they will more than likely send an engineer out to replace parts.

    Doesn't Dban wipe the whole lot - requiring a reinstall of Windows ?
    I was just hoping for a way of removing any personal data - without having to reinstall Windows ....

    No, really they won't. The best that will happen is Currys send it to a Tosh certified repair shop as Tosh doesn't do domestic repairs they subby them all out.

    If they have instructed you to wipe it then do it, there is no reason to start messing about using the recovery partition as it will be setup for some one else to use a waste of your time. The laptop would get reimaged from toshiba if it was needed to be checked.

    They have not advised us to do anything
    It is just a wise thing to do - when getting a PC looked at by anyone - particularly Currys !!
    You never know who will have access to it - and the personal data !!
