Wouldn't a cooker hood be subject to too much heat for an LED bulb?

If it's 12v it's probably AC from a cheap transformer in the cooker hood - 12v LEDs usually require a constant voltage DC so it may not work. It might flicker or might just fuse itself.

Thanks guys, I gone for a punt and bought 2 x Amitex non dimmable LED bulbs. A straight swap so far and no issues....as yet.

The bulbs are encased behind glass and then sunken into the hood. The hood is a fair distance from cooker, about a 75cm It has a glass curved canopy, so initial fitting determined the height.

All my posts are my opinion, and the actions I would take.
  • Costs me about 6p to run 6 halogen 50 watt bulbs in my kitchen. I wanted to swap them for LED. They all turn on with one switch. I placed in LED bulb and didn't work. However, I swaped over the LED bulbs in the bathrooms and they work perfectly.

I would have to switch over to a low watt tranformer to get them to work in the kitchen. That would cost about 6-7£ each. Looks like a simple job. But, it does mean it would probably take another year to recoup my money. In a rented flat so felt I wouldn't do it as I doubt I'll be here for more than 2 years.

I save about 80% of energy when I
Compare LED to halogen bulbs. Pretty impressive but not as higher saving as advertised.

I use these bulbs which cost £8.

And found them on Amazon with good reviews.
  • Replace the low voltage ones in the kitchen with mains voltage LED. That way you don't need to purchase the new transformers.
  • Thanks for that point smiley Dan.

Can you recommend any please. I have an MR16 fitting

You would need to ditch the MR16 fittings, they are low voltage only.

Swap them for GU10 and rewire, could be a lot of hassle though.
