Putting asterisks against some fields and not others, then when people don't complete the boxes without asterisks you highlight them in red and say that they must be completed:

Well, I have finally emailed Bestloved about their competition countdown clock which is always set to end at midnight when the comp doesn't finish until the following noon.

I hesitated because I've already contacted them twice - once about a link that led to the wrong competition and once about their spelling of "receive" as "recieve" on their site - and I imagined them groaning "It's that woman again". Then I decided I didn't care and emailed them.

Newsletters which have an opt in option but unless you tick it the competition won't submit, why give a false and infuriating non 'option'

My county not being in a generic drop-down list of counties. I do live in a real place!

Comps that are for the UK ONLY but have a drop down menu with 70 odd countries...and the United Kingdom is near the bottom...seriously why!??
...because they are sorted alphabetically and United Kingdom starts with U, but sometimes if you look USA is at the top followed by the country listing in alphabetical order.

HWTHMBO (the biggest pedant in our house) says the person coding that particular part of the website couldn't be bothered to change the coding (usually due to inexperience/ lack of knowledge) and they can make it have UK at the top of the alphabetical list.
just in case you need to know:

DS#2 - my twenty -one son

The point is, why have a drop down list at all if it is only open to UK. (See, I do qualify to be here)
  • Maybe it's just me that gets irked by things like this, but then I suppose that is both the beauty and the burden of being a pedant.

This was the drop-down menu found on a competition this morning (no Photobucket, so can't post the screenshot itself):

    How old are you?
    Under 20
    20-35
    35-50
    50-65
    65+

It bothers me mainly because I was taught how to correctly create surveys when I was about 12 (and I'd hazard a guess and say this was probably created by someone well past that age). Overlapping categories are a big, fat NO!!
