This is true, but I wasn't the one to say Pedant's Corner.

But you were the one who wanted to make it more than one pedant.;)

    Generally, or just with comps?!

OMG not sure I should really start...

    1. It is called a 'holiday'. You are not going on your 'holibobs'. ARGHHHHHHHH. That really should be a hanging offence.

    2. Most comp forms have a row for 1st line of address, then 'City' then 'County'. Just say 'location' or 'area'. I live in Chingford. It's not a city. I cringe every time I type it next to 'City'.

    3. There was a far worse handbag up for grabs last/this week (honestly, they sung its praises! Yuck!). I opened it and visibly shuddered.

    4. Don't start me off with holiday comps where they say things like: three night's holiday. ARGHHHH. Get your apostrophe in the right place.

    I'll be back :p

2024 wins: *must start comping again!*

I had a survey in my inbox today for Lactofree milk which Mr Cazzo has to have - got almost all the way through it until one of the options was ' I don't want to have to cut the thing's out that I enjoy '. I'm afraid I stopped dead in my tracks and filled the comment box with a damned good telling off and suggesting that if they wish to be taken seriously they might want to find someone less stupid to compile their survey questions. I do feel much better now but I just bet nobody will read it!

OK, so I happen to use LastPass to generate a unique password for each site that I sign up with, but these people need to realise that:

    1) Email is not a secure mode of communication

    2) A lot of people use the same password in most situations

Thanks for starting this thread, Roger - every time I see your signature I think "oh, me too!". :D

My current pet hate is one of the mag dailies, where the answer is a company's slogan, "Pamper Beautiful" - what does that even mean?!:mad::mad:

If this was to be a place for multiple pedants to gather, it would be plural and possessive.

    Pedants' corner

Just to clarify, the reason that I chose it to be "Pedant's Corner" rather than "Pedants' Corner" is because I saw it being a little bit like sitting on the naughty chair, or being told to stand in the corner with a dunce's hat on. That's because people often tell me off for being so pedantic! :rotfl:

The more pedants in here the better, naturally, but ideally we should take our turn in Pedant's Corner one at a time. In fact, after thinking about it, maybe it would be better to say that we need to stand on our pedestal in the corner one at a time. :rotfl:

Obviously if you guys would prefer a pedants' corner then I can always edit the title :p

It is a matter of eternal personal shame that I didn't actually notice anything wrong with your original title :o

If it makes you feel any better, Roger, my RL friends call me Miss Pedant, so you're certainly not alone in your corner!

Oh goodness, I could go on forever:

    1) When something is described as "quality" to mean it is good. Things can be poor quality too - "quality" isn't inherently positive!
    2) People typing "defiantly" when they mean "definitely"
    3) Some people seem to think that using "I" or "myself/yourself" sounds more well-spoken, when in many cases, the grammatically correct word to use is "me/you", eg "he had dinner with my husband and I" or "is the property for yourself and a partner?" are both incorrect!

Sorry, I'm rather pedantic too! :o
