vodafone defaults with no account.

Hi folks, basically I was a very silly young man, took out a vodafone contract which I couldn't really afford, it was then terminated. Soon after I decided to sort my financial life out. I rang vodafone told them I was happy to pay 150 a month until the balance had been wrote off. 6 months down the line, with car insurance, tax and MOT on an ageing car about to run out it was going to be a tough month finance wise, I did the grown up thing and rang vodafone to request a lower payment. Apparently they had no account information for me, nothing had since passed through my door in regards to monies owed. I recently set up a noodle account which has informed me vodafone have defaulted my account for the past year, after two half hour phone calls they have no record of me at any address, I disputed the case via noodle but received a refusal from vodafone. Where do I stand? I've tried hard to correct my finances and build my credit rating and all the effort has been a huge waste of time and money it would seem. Thanks Ross

Sounds like you did originally default the account?
Regardless, if they are reporting to your credit file then they must have details somewhere in order to do that.
If you still think what is on your credit file is wrong or unfair then complain again telling them that they are the ones reporting information on your credit file so they are responsible. Make it clear that you will take the matter to the communications ombudsman and Information Commissioner if not resolved to your satisfaction.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

My brother was defaulted for £18 by Vodafone in 2010. He was applying for a mortgage and kept getting denied because of it. It's disgusting how these mobile phone companies can do this. I would understand if it was perhaps over £200 but this is crazy.
Fortunately it is possible to get it removed, as I did this for him myself writing letters directly to Vodafone explaining the situation and how it's holding him back from securing a mortgage for him, his wife and new born child (slight lie in there trying to guilt trip them!). They claim to have removed the default last week, but said they will not remove the late payments as it's in every lenders interest to leave a true impression of the payer for other lenders, which I fully understand, but the default is gone so he'll now be accepted by more lenders.
Coincidently they said they had no record of my brother either. He found an old letter and suddenly with an account number they found him on the system. A simple and correct address search failed to find him originally, so perhaps that was intentional to make him go away! You must persist to write to them being polite and as professional as you can be. If you insult them they might drag their heels. After writing to the right person I had his default removed within a month.
Write directly here explaining your situation and how the default is preventing you from getting your very much needed credit. Try the guilt trip! It worked for my brother. Failing that you can try the Vodafone representative in the post above. Fact is I know this address get's it sorted:

Put EVERYTHING in writing and refuse to talk on the phone. You need proof and a conversation on the phone (unless it's recorded) is not proof. Date your letters and if they don't respond within 28 days, legally this can work in your favour as they are (and every company) by law supposed to respond within this period. There is also an email address where they may request your credit report:

I would suggest writing to them first and in the meantime find some paperwork with your account number. Try emails or anything you can do to find it, because without it you can't prove anything. Put that account number as a reference in all correspondence and send everything recorded delivery so you know they've received it. Good luck.0 -
yes i did originally default having missed 3/4 payments, i find it disgusting that a company can get away with this and i will be seeking some form of compensation and hopefully all but the original defaults removed from my file, after all i did everything in my power at the time to resolve the issues and fail to see how i can be punished for their mistakes. i'am 25 and looking to get a mortgage with my fiance, its not only this but applying for credit for car insurance means i have to pay higher rates.0
