Insurance or cash settlement?

Options
I had a small low speed bump in the car and the person who i hit has said she is taking the car to a ford garage. She said that the sensors are playing up as well as the exhaust. She said she has been trying to fix it herself which worries me.

I am worried that going through insurance would kill my no claims.

Can I ask for a quote and then decide on cash or insurance or do I have to decide before?

  • If there are sensors needed etc, it is going to start getting expensive and odds are, if she's gone to the Ford dealer, she'll get sucked into some sort of accident management ploy, whereby the company she gets referred to will just go straight to your insurers.

You don't have to pay any excess for a third party claim and odds are trying to settle up with her directly will be far more expensive than the increase in your premiums.

You lose 2 years no claims for one claim (and none is awarded for the year), so whether or not this claim will kill yours depends on how many years you held at the start of the policy.

If it's cost effective, you can get your no claim discount reinstated by reimbursing your insurer their outlay over the claim after it has been concluded.
