Tom Tom ripoff
I have a Tom Tom Go Live 820 sat nav device purchased about 2.5 years ago. I pay an annual subscription for traffic updates and have purchased a South Africa map, a counry I visit quite regularly.
The micro USB charging port on the device has worked itself loose (probably due to poor manufacturing) and I am unable to charge the device. The satnav is effectively dead.
I contacted with Tom Tom to get it repaired and was quoted Euro 104 for this. Ridiculous since a comparable device can be purchased for around £130. They offered me a 20% discount on a new device but advised me that the maps I have purchased are not transferable. I have also been advised that the remaining traffic update subscription will not be refunded.
Nice little money spinner they have on. I am extremely disappointed and feel angry.
Has anyone experienced this before? Any solutions available? I suspect the charging port can be replaced but I cant see any access screws to take the device apart.
Any suggestions gracefully received.

Try you're local PC/mobile phone repair shop. Some near me also repair satnavs.Always try to be at least half the person your dog thinks you are!0

Frequently see satnavs advertised on Ebay as "not working, sold for parts only" If you were handy with a screwdriver it might be an option for you.0

I actually sold a broken satnav myself. I tried to fix mine by buying another broken one and salvaging the parts. But the numbers didn't add up.
From what I found, the main reason why people sell them is because the screen is broken (sometimes just the digitiser. Unlike the ipad digitiser that clips on, the stanvs aren't always like that and the new one you have to glue together and then somehow solder the new wires in.
So the only way I could salvage my satnav is to buy a new screen and digitiser which was about 80% the cost of a new satnav.
I fancied an upgrade so I just bought a new unit altgoether.0 -

..........not by you removing the lead incorrectly, of course ?
I would split the unit in half (see youtube) and then fix it in place with a good dollop of Araldite. Super glue doesn't work on some plastics and being a clear liquid it is often difficult to see where it has gone.0
