I have my house on the market for £150k, a couple who love the property have made an offer of £142,500, the estate agent told me they could possibly go to £145k but no higher. If people cannot afford the asking price then why look in the first place, or are they trying it on?? I have refused the £142,500! Fed up!!

When you go house-hunting do you always offer the asking price? If so, I think you're the exception.I have my house on the market for £150k, a couple who love the property have made an offer of £142,500, the estate agent told me they could possibly go to £145k but no higher. It may not be that the couple can't afford the asking price; they're probably just testing you.Are you for real? - Glass Half Empty??

I expected a couple of grand but not £7500. I know everyone says it but its a good price. I have had a tenant in it for a couple of years and the selling price is what I was going to sell if for then. Its not officially on the market but the estate agent/letting agent rang to say they had a couple who were desperate to view as its the house they want. So I took a chance in upsetting my tenant to let these view. The tenant wants to buy it but it could be another 6 months before she is in a position to be able to. The tenant already agreed to purchase it for £148k so I think for the sake of a few grand I will wait for her.0

Last year we took an offer 20k below asking price and knocked 20k off one we were buying. That was the highest offer we got in months of trying to sell and house we were buying had been up for sale even longer.
Lots of people try cheeky offers and sometimes it works!
We think our buyer offered just under 125k so wouldnt have any stamp duty to pay.
Thats what the governments done.0 -
Nothing wrong with their offer. They make an offer expecting you to start negotiating a higher figure. As far as im aware most sellers price their home with a view to negotiating a sale figure slightly less than the asking price.0

I would be happy at £147,500 so hopefully we can agree somewhere near that figure, fingers crossed!0

I made an offer and it has been accepted. It was £10k cheaper than the offer they had turned down12 months ago.0

5% below asking price seems fair enough to me.0
