Had a job trial,job wasn't available?

Hi. There's a lot of different forum sections on here and I'm still not sure if this is entirely the right section for my issue, if there is a more suitable one then feel free to point me in the right direction and I will be more than happy to post about this there.

Two months ago, I uploaded CV on to CV Library. Reed and the other job agencies was getting me nowhere and I'd heard a lot of good things about CV Library. The next day, I got a phone call about a job as a copywriter (I was looking for writing work ideally). I was asked to go to an interview the following week which I agreed to. At the interview, I was told if I completed a test, I would be offered a trial for the following week. I was told that there were two job positions available and was informed of the salary. The test was writing an article on a given subject, I was given sources to help. I passed and got the trial for the following week.

The week went well and I really enjoyed it. There was also someone else there on the same team who like me, was on a trial for the week. They didn't really speak with anyone. The trial week was in late May. Got on well with the copywriting team, did the work as required. The interviewer, who is a director there, said at the interview that she would be away on the week of my trial, she would be back the following week and she said "We'll see where we go from there". I thought I'd get a phone call or an email within two weeks. I called two weeks later and was told she was away from her office and would call me back. Didn't get any call. I called two weeks later again and still, told she was away and would call. I received no call or email.

So the following week, I emailed, saying that I had my trial week and was wondering what my current status regarding any potential job was (whether it was pending or not, just so I could worry less.) I got a reply the next day, saying:

"

Thank you for your email.

At this moment in time we don’t a permanent position however the feedback on your work placement was good.

Joseph, we have kept your details and will get in contact when a suitable role becomes available.

Thanks"

I replied saying that I was told there were job roles available and that they were and still are advertised in the Careers section on their website. Her reply was:

"Dear Joseph

To answer your question and as you can see all roles in our Organisation are permanently advertised on our Company website and on certain portals.

Regards"

I did not reply to that.

I believe I have been completely misled regarding this situation. I was hoping that I could complain to someone in order for the company in question to be brought to task and told that what they're doing is wrong? Thanks.

Thank you wealdroam, I've posted it there too. I forgot to add that I'm sure they do this with other people also, unfortunately.

I wasn't going to name them, but as it may help others, I will. The company's name is SEO Junkies and they are based in Wokingham, Berkshire.

I'm not allowed to post links as a new user but if you Google SEO Junkies then it's the first result.

Unlikely they will ever take you on now that you have named and shamed them. Will be very easy to work out who you are from the emails you posted!

Probably for the best if they don't like paying people.

Yes it just takes advantage of people needing work. At least they could be upfront about it being a work experience placement.

Don't you think they could just be letting you down gently, it's possible you just didn't meet their requirements for what they needed at the time.

A suitable role for you might have arisen, you blew it now though.

Sounds more likely that they are trying to evade their responsibilities and costs as an employer, ie employers national insurance, Statutory Sick Pay, holiday pay, Statutory Maternity Pay etc, by employing staff on a self-employed basis.
