Ok so yes I may have read it wrong, but that's by the by now, would you suggest I take them to my local office? I think this is probably my best bet would you say?

My daughter was told she couldn't get an instant passport appointment for her kids, but went to Peterborough, applied - it arrived in six days.

You needed to be asking the passport office these questions.
I think there can be some confusion with passports because their used to be a separate leaflet telling you what you need to include eg cheque photos birth certificate , there used to be a checklist of what to include.if you didn't have that leaflet you may not have realised( not sure if it's changed now)

Aw that is such a sham, hope you get it sorted. TBH you'll be lucky at this late stage. Fingers crossed

It seems you can't get a 4 hour turn round on premium and it's too late for fast track, all you can do is take all your certificates that you need inc you and father and marriage cert and hope somehow they can get them to the office your passport applications are in, and beg. Say you put your phone number and you had no call from them

The documents IPS needs to see depend on where your child was born.
If you are still not sure what you need to send after reading the details below, you can call the IPS Passport Adviceline
    0300 222 0000
    .
If the child was born or adopted in the UK
IPS needs to see the child's full birth or adoption certificate showing parents' details and one of the following:
the mother's UK birth certificate, or her Home Office certificate of registration or naturalisation, or her passport that was valid at the time of the child's birth

I'm very sorry for the predicament you're in but if you did read the guidance ten times and still missed what was asked for by way of documentation for a first passport, even thought it was clearly set out in a table, the best way to proceed now is to accept you made a mistake and move forward from there.

If your application really has been held in Belfast for many weeks without any contact to obtain the missing documentation, you should be in a very good position to insist on an urgent solution to enable you to travel. Focus on the delay in chasing up the missing documentation and insist they put this right. Dont' waste time on arguing whether you should have sent the birth certificates or not - you should, but it's too late to change that now and it won't make any difference to the outcome.

I'm not sure you can get a four hour turnaround for a child, you need to check this.
Edit- I've looked at the link- a child's first passport can't be done in four hours.

Thanks for all your help. Yes it looks like I did misread it but if it's been in review since 24th June they should have contacted me then, plus the fact I have logged at least six call backs and not received any. I am hoping that they are halfway there with it all anyway so will be able to process it tomorrow.
Someone I spoke to at the main office also told me that they had been dispatched when clearly they haven't. I have logged a complaint against her also.
It doesn't excuse the lack of communication and the fact I haven't received any call backs, it could have been resolved weeks ago from the first time I phoned.

Blimey, i panicked then. Sent off my for my babies passport on Friday (travel October)
Read Claire21's post and suddenly thought oh god, i havent included my birth certificate or passport

Just re-read my booklet and it says to include child's full birth certificate and to prove a parents claim to British nationality either their full birth certificate or their passport number.

Praying i've done it all right!!

Really hope you manage to get it sorted by the way, can't believe what an absolute shambles it is applying for passports at the moment. It's shameful.

Maybe I'm wrong in reading it but I thought it odd that I didn't have to send them, perhaps I misread. Yes they are first passports. Like you say though it doesn't excuse the lack of communication. I will go back to the passport office tomorrow with birth certificates and photos and see what they can do. Hopefully it can be sorted. The most ridiculous thing of all is that they claim they cannot contact each other internally via telephone? It is all done through email? I find this hard to believe really and if it that is the case it obviously doesn't work very well as a system.

    Didn't you send photos either?
  • Haha yes I did send photos but was taking spare ones in case. I spoke with a really helpful manager at the passport office and managed to make a serious complaint regarding lack of communication and being given false information. My daughters passports arrived today, I can't tell you how relieved I am!!
