Free/Cheap Parking in Whitby and Scarborough

Options
Hi,

It looks like we might be getting windswept/wet on the north east coast next week, so could anyone advise where the cheapest place to park is in Whitby and Scarborough. It will more than likely be long stay.

It's been a while since we have been over that way.

I seem to recall that free on street parking was available on West Cliff in Whitby, but someone mentioned recently that this has been stopped.

Valley Road Scarborough used to be free, but I'm guessing this was stopped years ago.

Any advice (apart from don't go) would be appreciated.

On the Esplanade in Scarborough. Chargeable at the end nearest town but free if you go further up and are prepared to walk 10-12 mins.

Most of town is short stay in Scarborough and also need money for meters or off main town centre parking permits which are free but limited to 2-3 hours unless a resident gives you a scratch card

    Found this

I believe Whitby like Scarborough has a park and ride now

What's a scratch card (as regards residents parking)?

If you live in a residents zone its around 1/2 mile to a mile from town centre in order to park residents need a permit at some cost. They get so many scratch cards to give to friends/family I think some hotel/guest houses might get some. I dont live in a residents parking zone now but use too. Some streets very close to town centre also have parking meters for short stay. You can get some parking discs from some shops to park for 2-3 hours only too. I park in town that way

Disc clocks are available from the Customer First Centre in Scarborough (next to town hall and M&S), the Tourist Information Centre in Whitby and they are also available from local shops and businesses, as well as hotels and holiday accommodation around the town.

    Disc clocks are free.

havent been to whitby in a while, but used to park in teh car park on Langborne Road, just past the Tourist Information Centre on the left. think it is the 'port of whitby harbour' car park. never used to think it was that expensive [mind you i have been to cornwall and the lakes where they are a total rip off]
Also it was free after 6pm

Whitby. Try Windsor Terrace which runs alongside the railway station.
