Going to book the car into local garage but in meantime always like to know roughly what is going on so I'm better informed.

Got a Corsa 1.2 petrol manual, x reg, 95k on the clock, had since new, serviced regularly last service last Sept. Been pretty much trouble free since new.
But it has started having lack of power problems, usually happens when accelerating rapidly to overtake, or quick acceleration uphill. Doesn't always happen though.
What happens is, there seems to be a lack of power, so no accelleration and the engine light comes on for a few seconds and the car maintains the same speed. Once the episode is over, everything returns to normal and will drive normally.
Only started happening regularly the last couple of days.
Hope someone can shed some light on possible cause so I am in the picture before I take it in. Hope it is not serious!

Cheers
G

either Lambda sensor , £15 on Ebay etc

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oxygen_sensor

or possibly coil pack , around £40 , which is a known Corsa problem

Could also be crank sensor - very common failure on vauxhalls.

Coil pack usually causes a noticeable misfire at idle too.

None of these are particularly expensive, or difficult to fit, so under £100 should cover it at a garage.

    Corsa........lack of power

I see nothing unusual here !

Seriously, get the garage to read the fault codes and replace the sensor/coil pack that is faulty. May even increase the economy as well.

  • sounds like a throttle position sensor to me, is this the mk2 corsa known as the corsa C by any chance? fly by wire throttle gets gunked up hampering the throttle position sensor and not so common but has been seen to go also is the pedal position sensor on the accelerator pedal.
if you have been loyal to your main dealer I would negotiate on diagnosis fee's if you have the work completed with them.

    Oi cheeky beggar ;)

Thanks for all the helpful replies. Glad it sounds nothing serious.

I think it is a Corsa B (but none of the documentation tells you and the photos are hard to tell online as the C had two versions one with a facelift) and the year 2000 straddles B and C. Anyway I'm fairly sure it's a B. I have not taken it to the main dealer for servicing for about 10 years. The chap I have now is excellent and reliable so hopefully he will sort it out without any trouble. I've got it booked in. Fingers crossed. Do these older cars produce error codes like the more modern ones?

    Thanks again.

If an older Vauxhall didn't throw on its warning lights on a regular basis I'd guess someone had taken the bulb out.

A corsa b is narrow, and the rear lights are low level with the number plate.

The C is much fatter and the rear lights are level with the window.
