Starting your own comp website...are you allowed?

Does anyone know if just anyone is allowed to start up their own comping website , im thinking a click to win one? Thinking about it myself as i have time on my hands having just had a baby nine months ago and have a little money to spare to invest. I would eventually get companies to give their own prizes, once i had a good few entries and clicks to get them interested, and then charge them for that (im assuming thats how the existing websites actually make their omney??))but to start off with would buy the prizes myself (initial start up of £1000 on prizes to get going). My question also is could i advertise say a £50 argos voucher to win or would i need Argos's permission to do so??

Any help would be great!

You can start whatever site you like.

You can advertise something to win as long as you've bought it prior to the comp and you state that the competition is not affiliated to the company you've bought it from

Oh and instead of a click to win comp site ( you may need to sell advertising to appeal to some companies)

why not do a blog and offer prizes on that ?

i really wanted to do multiple competitions like the winsomething one, where you just go on and click to win. Obviously starting with small £50 prizes. I know advertising is a way to get money in, but how on earth do you know what to charge?? also likewise for the companies who hopefully would get involved, so i charge them per prize to advertise? does anyone know how these existing sites do it?

    Hi
Don't take this the wrong way but why would you want to do something like this?
Here's a few reasons why I think you shouldn't bother

    1. You have a nine month old child, spend as much time with her/him as possible. Old cliche I know but they really do grow up fast.
    2. You "have a little money to spare to invest". Setting up a reasonably good website involves a decent amount of cash (unless you have a good friend who is a web designer and is willing to do it for a lot less). If it's not up to scratch no promoter will touch it.
    3. No guarantee of any return or small return for a lot of hard work.
    4. That part of the market seems more than well covered (click to win etc)

I admire your entrepreneurial spirit but think it's a bad idea and you'd be better investing them money for your child elsewhere.
Good luck if you decide to go ahead with it.

I would say in a few months you will have a lot less time, My little boys almost 18 months now and use to be happy to entertain himself if I needed to do some bits, now I stuggle to find any time for myself - god bless a good sleep routine and i get 2 hrs each afternoon, but when you need to shower, housework and comp it flies past - enjoy your time with the little one! Set up a blog about parenting and evenyually you can run some giveaways x

to say that just because i have a baby i should sit at home and do nothing with my life, is pretty old fashioned advise. If everybody did that had had babies did, there would be no small businesses around. I spend all day with her, but she does during the day and 11 hours at night.

Please ignore the fact i have a child as this SHOULDNT be an issue or stop you from doing anything in life (within reason!).

It is also a myth that a website costs thousands of pounds, yes it does require some investment, but again this is not an issue.

    Anyone with some helpful advise!??

You come on asking for ADVICE and shoot people down for telling you to concentrate on your child.
You obviously haven't got a clue about advertising, the basics of running a business or how to generate interest in your website so god knows why you think it's a good idea to start one?

I didn't say a website would cost thousands. Yes, you can get one on the go for a couple of hundred quid but I know which I'd rather look at.
You've given the impression that the cost isn't important so why don't you spend some of the money on professional ADVICE instead of coming on here and being rude to people.

I think they meant run a website that has giveaways, not list competitions available :)

How about doing giveaways on a blog or a facebook page?
Pretty quick and easy to set up.
