Critical Illness Cover

Hi, This is my first post so I hope I'm getting things right. I took out critical illness cover with Legal and General in 1911. I was covered for Total and Permanent Disability as I thought but I have since been diagnosed with a mental illness which has made me unable to work again. That is the diagnosis of my doctors. However, when I wanted to claim I was told that the Total and Permanent Disability only applied to my ability/inability to do certain physical tasks. My concern is that I had read the critical illness terms but it did not state that mental illness was not included in my schedule although it was clearly mentioned in the definition. I had been excluded from cover if anything happened my back because of a previous illness and I understood that but I had no previous history of mental illness. I don't quite understand it all and am at loss as to what to do because of the strain on the family financial situation. Could anyone advise please? Thank you

You can't claim on the insurance for your mental illness , but neither can you complain it was mis-sold to you.
Sorry.0 -
What was covered would have been listed in the policy documents
If something wasn;t mentioned it's fair to assume it wsn't covered.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0 -
Wow, I would have thought your policy would have lapsed years ago.0

Mental illness is not covered under critical illness. It would have been covered under an income protection plan had you taken that instead.I am a Mortgage Adviser

Thank you. I read L&G terms and 'Total and Permanent Disability' is defined as "Loss of the physical or mental ability through an illness or injury to the extent that the life assured is unable to do the material and substantial duties of their own occupation ever again" I understood that to include mental illness. Thanks for your comments.0
