lloyds shares under probate - valuing and transferring with equiniti

my deceased mother had some (not many) free shares which were originally halifax but then HBOS and now lloyds.
given that and she seems to have been offered extra shares at some point its slightly hard to work out how many shares she had.
lloyds have sold their share management to equiniti as discussed here https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5012007
who have a charged for shareview valuation service

is that really the only way to find out how many shares my mother had ? if I knew the number it's be easy to find the value of the shares on the day,
also will it be easy (and cheap !) to transfer those shares or do equiniti charge for everything - or do I have to sell them (ie not transferable similar to premium bonds), the equiniti website doesn't seem to discuss transfer of title to myself
many thanks in advance

If you write to Equiniti with a copy of the death certificate and ask for details of the shares they should send you a letter confirming how many shares are held.
You can then value as you've discussed above.
From memory they will also normally send you some information about selling or transferring shares. If you specifically ask that in your letter you should be able to get the forms you need and details of their admin charges.:heartpuls Daughter born January 2012 :heartpuls Son born February 2014 :heartpuls

Are share certificates not amongst her possessions? If she had taken up the offers or if there was no choice new certificates would have arrived automatically.
How important is it to have an exact value? Unless IHT is envisaged you can get away with a rough figure.
Unless things have changed, once you have Probate Equiniti will transfer to you free of charge0 -
A lot of shares now are not certificated, especially through Equiniti and the other share management schemes.
Though she would have been receiving regular statements with dividend payments and they would have the number of shares held detailed on them.:heartpuls Daughter born January 2012 :heartpuls Son born February 2014 :heartpuls
