appology letter from british gas
Options
I have received a letter from british gas apologising that they didn't take my final balance when I left them, my final payment should have been collected by direct debit but due to a technical problem this didn't happen and I wasn't sent any reminders to pay what I owed, when I rang british gas to query this they said a letter had been sent last year (I didn't receive any letter) I left british gas in feb last year to join Scottish power, I have been left now for almost 18 months, they have said that I have until 15th August to pay the amount or it will be passed to their debt collection team even though its their fault!!!! There was no amount on the letter and it doesn't even state whether it is for gas or electric, has anyone else received one of these?

you are not alone Jakey ,we left British Gas last January after many years with them on dual fuel monthly direct debit. On 21st June this year they wrote to say that they had cancelled the direct debits after we had contacted them. The last contact we had was 18 months ago when we sent the final meter readings. We have now received the same letter as you saying we owe money but not saying how much and threatening legal action by 15th August. How many more of us are in the same boat ?0

Hi Both
I've had what sounds like the same letter - I left British Gas some years ago and have had two different energy providers since
The letter has no details of what the oustanding balance is which makes me suspicious. Has anyone contacted BG yet about this?0 -
I posted about this earlier. My husband contacted then and they said we owed over £230 and that we should make arrangements to pay it, they said it was a computer error. I don't feel that they can suddenly ask for this money after over a year I am about to end my current deal with another company so I know its been a year. What is the opinion of others in this situation?0

I would say it depends how much effort you made to pay at the time, did you ask for a final bill or follow up with a letter or email?0

I have had similar, i have raised a complaintDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0
