Credit Card Application - Employment Status?

How much cashback do you think you might earn between now and September? I'd just wait a few weeks then apply when you can truthfully say you are employed.
Cheers for the reply all.
I fully accept your responses and kinda guessed the same, but thought I might as well check on here first before assuming the worst.
As for the cashback, I'm getting married in Feb and so we're getting a lot of stuff ordered over the summer holidays (Fiancee works in a school too so we have 6 weeks together before we go back to work). We were hoping to get the suit, her dress, flowers, invites and more all done before we start work. I'm guessing about a tenner's worth of cashback purely for the wedding, plus we're going away for a week so no doubt there would be some holiday spending too.
No worries though, and thanks for all the replies! :beer:0 -
Buy the things that you feel you need to buy now on the 123 card from a place that qualifies for Cashback, you'll get 2% if you use a department store so you'll probably be better off than if you used the Cap One card for everything in the same period.0

I was in a very similar situation about a year ago. For me, I wasn't as concerned about whether I was employed/student/something else but wanted to be able to use my new income on the application. So after my first day of work I applied for it and about a week later it arrived so I bought a bed :j What a great night that was!
Anyway, I'd leave it until you start work as you'll have a better chance.
If your fiancee is working, could she apply for a cashback card instead so you don't miss out on the cashback over summer?0 -

None of the sites qualify for cashback. I've gone for places with the best price, not ones where I can get cashback. To buy from a department store will cost a lot more than the cashback I'd get anyway.0 -
Hello,
I'm sure are already on this but please don't forget you can use cashback sites such as Quidco and Topcashback.Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass...it's learning to dance in the rain.0 -
If you have signed a contract and are starting in the next week, I would put employed and the relevant details. There will be no marker at NHunter unless you have applied for several items of credit with markedly different details up to 6 months after one particular application being marked as potentially fradulent.0

I graduated earlier this month and have a job starting in September.
Anything could happen between now and September that could make putting employed invalid.0 -

Once you've crossed the line by saying you're employed when you're not (yet), then I think it is easy to interpret "with employer" as "since you signed up".0 -
The other thing to consider is that this Capital One card is aimed at people without fantastic credit history, so I don't see why being a student will necessarily mean a rejection. I applied for the Luma card while a student and got that with £1000 limit.
Another alternative is for your fiancee to apply for a different card and add you as a secondary cardholder. If she's working and has a credit history, that could be feasible. You'd need to consider if she'd be happy for you to run up spending that she's liable for, but if you're getting married that might not be an issue.0
