Initially posted this in Savings. Somebody suggested here would be a more appropriate place, and also that it might not be effective, so would appreciate understanding why. Thanks.
Here's a tip to protect internet Banking users from "key loggers" and having their passwords hijacked.
If you have Windows XP, call up a picture of your keyboard screen. (This is a little known facility which exists in Windows XP). Then, instead of typing in your passwords using your real keyboard, use your mouse to click on the letters/numbers of your password from the "picture of the keyboard" shown on your screen. This will prevent any key logger from discovering your password. Here's how it's done:

Method One
- Select "Start" (bottom left corner of your screen)
- Select "All Programs" from the pop up box.
- Select "Accessories" from the next pop up list.
- Select "Accessability"
- Select "On Screen Keyboard". You can "Drag & Drop" the picture as a permanent short cut onto your desktop screen.
- Select "Start"
- Select "Run" (bottom right hand column).
- In the pop up box which appears, type "OSK" (On Screen Keyboard). Press OK.

I doubt it will work, a keylogger will just hook into the api in between osk and the O/S. osk just simulates a real keyboard.
It will protect against hardware keyloggers, but if you have one of those on your PC, you can see it.
Typing stuff in the wrong order, or copying and pasting may be more effective. More importantly, good av and antispyware scanners.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
ING online bank already uses a system similar to this.
When you enter your details, you don't press any keys, you mouse-click on a small keypad that appears on the screen (on the website).Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.0
