Bank account for a 7 year old

Hello,
My son is 7 and would like a bank account. We don't want him to be able to go overdrawn and he would like a card to use in a cash point. I know Halifax have an account like this but we don't have a branch in our town. I have tried looking on the various websites of banks we do have but can't see the wood for the trees. Does anyone have a little one with an account they can recommend?
Many thanks

I don't have small kids so no practical experience with this account but I have the adult version of it and I love it.0 -

Looks like Co-op if you want a card but the interest rate is poor.0 -
I don't think many banks will offer an overdraft to a seven year old, since only adults can be bound by a credit agreement...No free lunch, and no free laptop

I'd like to think my seven year old is a good few years off needing/wanting a card to be able us make ATM withdrawals.0

My son is 7 and would like a bank account.... and he would like a card to use in a cash point.
I'm lost for words. The way you've written this sounds like he wants a bank account like he wants a new DVD - unless he's a child model or something and earns, what's he going to do with a bank account??
I don't want to judge your parenting style, but I can't fathom any situation where a 7 year old would need an ATM card. It's not as if they're wandering around town by themselves doing the shopping....
But back to your question, because you came here for advice on that as opposed to wanting discussion on the reasons for your question, the Co-op is the only one I know of. http://www.co-operativebank.co.uk/savings/bonus-account0 -

My 9 year old wants an account she can put her birthday and christmas money in (piggy bank is getting a bit full!) but I wasn't sure if kids could get one. Not sure about a cash card because I will always be with her and will take her into the bank. But an account would be handy!0
