Bank Error - Not Quite in my Favour

Hi,
Although this happened in my Australian bank account, I thought I would share it with the forum. 12 weeks ago, my account had an unauthorised withdrawal of $140. We immediately contacted the bank and had the account locked to prevent any further unauthorised transactions taking place. The account remained locked for a number of weeks and we had to jump through hoops to get it unlocked. I sent an invoice to the bank and charged them for every letter (email) at their rate plus an unauthorised overdraft fee of $50 per week. I also charged for my time and inconvenience. In the end, the bank agreed on compensation of $3000. All I did was charge them at their own rates which they agreed to refund (plus a huge slug of compensation). It made me happy anyway!
Good luck if you are in a similar situation
Simon

Judging by your other posts you've had a run of good fortune.

Many years ago, when all bank letters were chargeable, I charged Nat West £75 for having to write to them 3 times to correct an error. The branch manager initially stated that £25 per letter was extortionate. I invited him to escalate the matter to his area manager, pointing out that my charges were based on their own price list. The money was in my account the next day.0
