Open Up a Dell Laptop Power Supply

The DC output cable is damaged just after it leaves the PSU. I need to open it and chop off the first 50mm of cable and resolder it.

Anyone know how to open it, there are no screws and I don't want to wade in blind trying to lever it open with a big screwdriver!

ISTR that, like most transformers, it's a sealed unit, you have to get brutal to open them.

Try using a handsaw to saw GENTLY around the groove in the center - as this is the thinest part of the sealed unit - you can then prise the two halves apart.

EDIT: I have not done this with a DELL power unit - but have been successful with a Samsung one years ago.
