old debt not defaulted - shows as 6 months in arrears - stay forever on my file?!

I have an old debt with Barclays bank which was an overdraft my husband ran up on a joint account. I have refused to pay it as it was his debt but he hasn't paid it either. It will shortly become statute-barred as it is nearly 6 years since any contact on the account and there has been no legal action etc.
Issue I have is that it shows on my credit file as 6m arrears (that's what I presume the 6 means?). There is no default showing on there. questions are:
1. if there was no agreed payment how can it be 6m in arrears? (this was an overdraft)
2. when this becomes statute barred will the 6 status still continue?
3. what can I do to stop this account from appearing on my credit file forever as at the moment I can't see how it will go - it is continually being updated every month with another 6.
Thanks in advance for any help!

1. It shouldnt be. Barclays are taking the pi$S reporting it as that.
2. Unless you complain yes it will.
3. Once its statute barred complain that 6 is not an accurate record of the account and it should have been a default 6 years ago and no longer be on your report. Tell BC you will take them to the FOS and ICO if they dont change it.Still rolling rolling rolling......<

As above. ODs are a bit funny with default dates, but that is taking the pee:beer:0

I am in the same situation with Provident except in my case the account was included in an IVA in 2008.
They are currently reporting it as a 6 so I wrote to them on the 12th June and said they needed to mark it as defaulted and settled before September 2008 as this was the date of the default.
I got a letter back from them dated 30th June advising that they would correct the entry and it should be done within 5 working days. I am still waiting.
I am now in the process of complaining to the ombudsman in the hope they will contact them and get them to update the record.0
