Upset not sure what to do

Hi, I'm upset about losing my job and I don't know what to do.

I enjoyed doing the job and was sacked because I made a complaint about a colleague basically bullying me and making my job harder. I was at the company for just short of 3 months. They said they would pay me for the next 2 weeks which they haven't.

I don't think I did anything wrong I just got on with my work, more work than I should of done for them but that's just my nature that I like to help people when and if I can. I feel like I've been kicked in the face by them when I was good at my job.

I thought I'd of been in this job for a long time. Why are people so nasty?

There are always (at least) two sides to every story, and I am guessing that their view will be different to yours.
To answer the specific question, the only thing that you can do is learn from it and move on. Hope you find another job soon.

The CAB have a lot of information on their website about your rights. Have a read to see has your employer treated you as they should. Your problem is going to be 'cos you were only there for 3mths.

See I thought about unfair dismissal too but with the OP potentially being in the trial period the company have a loop hole...

OP has already posted her side of the story here.... sorry, I don't know how to cross quote.

In answer to your questions. Lots of people are nasty, it's how life is. You can't change that but you can change how you deal with it. If you feel you have been unfairly treated have a look at the link in Sailor Sam's post. If you find there is no recompense for you, your next move would be to try and move on and find another job.
    Good luck.

Having read your other post and it saying you were self-employed there is absolutely nothing you can do about it. Get the 2 weeks money you are owed, find another job and chalk it up to experience.

I notice you haven't actually said in either post what the other person did that made your job impossible or what you did to try and resolve the situation before you made a complaint. It may be the manager felt it was a situation you should have been able to resolve on your own and he doesn't want someone on his team that runs to him with tiny issues. If it was something more major then be glad you are out of there!

The employment law used to be that you could be let go or 'sacked' - at any point within your first 12 months, for literally the most trivial of reasons. I am not sure if this has changed now

Companies used to ''hire'' full time staff and then ''sack them'' when it suited (within the first 12 months) to aid with the ebb and tide of the business if it were seasonally busy, to save the cost of a few months agency staff or for other economic reasons

I could be wrong, but If the above still applies then I am not sure that your 'sacking' was personal - they were probably going to get rid of you anyway at the first possible chance. It would need to be a 'sacking' rather than a redundancy as I believe there are some laws about readvertising a job once redundancies have occured
The opposite of what you know...is also true

2 years now with the exception of discrimination in the eyes of law (ie race, gender etc) or for standing up for statutory rights.

OP if the contract said 2 weeks and as long as you can prove it then it might be worth looking at sending a letter before action and then going small claims court (cheaper than a tribunal most likely)

trial periods are pretty much pointless as its 2 years before someone can claim unfair dismissal.

I've not read the other thread but I was gotten rid of within 3 months of starting my first post uni job as, I was told be another member of staff, they didn't have the pay the recruitment company - I think it saved them a couple of £k. Obviously if I was perfect for the job they would've kept be and stumped up, but my manager was a d!ck and didn't provide any support or help, so I had no chance!

The important thing is to try and bolster your self esteem now, straight away. I'm nearly a decade into my career and I still feel sick if I get pulled into an office because I think I'm going to be fired... I can't tell you how to bolster it as if I could, I wouldn't feel like I did!

If you're worried about getting into a new position, start volunteering maybe. Speak to other people at your old work if you know any socially to see if people will give you a positive personal reference?

    Good luck

Been there, done that, suffered the consequences many times. You know what your fault is? - The bold bit. People like other people who gossip, **it stir, take part in chinese whispers etc. People don't like the ones who stay quiet and work hard - they're seen as up the bosses butt etc.

Took me years to work that out, I'll never work hard again. My last job I started with the work hard attitude and i was hated. By the time I walked out I had colleagues begging me not to quit - I'd turned into a slacker (at the bosses request), took the pee, called people names, took part in gossip, been a stirrer etc. Oddly that seemed to work out best (for a while at least). Trouble is I was still favourite for getting it in the neck when something went wrong and eventually i walked..

So there you go.. unless you're in a job where they demand / expect you to work hard, don't bother. It does not work and it gets other peoples backs up - you're also making them look lazy and thats not good either!

My missus also used to get bullied at work, she was a grafter and she learnt the same trick too - mix in with the gang and stuff worrying about the workload. You should see the boxes and bags of pressies she comes home with now when it's her birthday
