Hi everyone. I have an old rosary beads case of Padre Pio which has the marking "IR" on the inside of the metal case. I then looked it up and found this stood for Iridium so wondering what is the best place to sell this precious metal, would i get less money for it with the non-metal materials still intact? Or is this item itself sought after and worth more?

Here is some pictures:

Not convinced from the photo that it's iridium - it's an *incredibly* hard metal to work and very dense. Could the IR stand for anything else? It looks like pressed/stamped steel FWIW - you just couldn't make that shape from iridium!

I can't seem to find that, but have edited the posts accordingly.

Was thinking the same. I just saw 'IR' looked it up and came across Iridium, put two and two together and probably got excited over nothing! It also looks like it could be a very fancy 'R'

In this case the IR stands for I.R. Baboon!

I would doubt it is is Iridium...but would be interested to know. Looks too fancy and is more likely to be a makers mark/stamp.

    It trades at $620/oz.
If it weighed around 60g, you've looking at £904.

I'd go to a shop and get the metal authenticated first off.

Iridium's symbol - I would have thought - would be Ir, not IR.

Interesting. Though i've done the magnet test and it stuck right away, so we can rule out silver!

I'll take it into Ramsdens tomorrow then, and see what they can identify it as.

I'd have thought most likely it'll be someone's initials. But you never know. Think it's wise to ask an expert.
