Can I leave decking boards untreated?

Just scrubbed down my decking for the first time as it has come up well.
Now looks like natural wood and I like the finish but I assume I have taken a layer of protection off in the process.
Is it unwise to not treat the decking now or will the wood deteriorate over time if left untreated?
thanks

The decking will almost certainly be pressure treated (pt). This process forces chemicals into the wood and you will not have taken a layer off.
It's not vital to seal pt wood but a sealer with UV protection can help to retain its colour.Forgotten but not gone.0 -
If you do re - treat, choose decking oil rather than stain.
Will wear better underfoot.
