Please help!

Hi

We got our mortgage offer in the post today. Full offer no problems etc. Our buyers have sent surveyors in now and our parents (whose house we are buying) have committed to buying their chain free bungalow. So we are the middle link in the chain. Now today the mortgage offer arrived only to find my surname had been misspelt as had an E on the end. Literally one extra letter! So I email our broker to tell him only to then be told it's his error he put in the extra E on all the application and now we may be credit scored again?!?!!! Is this likely to happen? It's with santander and we have had such an easy and quick application it's been unbelievable! Especially as we have debt and are after 85% LTV we don't earn tons however the mortgage would cost less a month than we pay now due to our current mortgage interest rate! I'm absolutely terrified now that they may have credit searched someone else and the whole thing could fall through! Any advice appreciated!

Advice? Correct the minor error and wait for confirmation of your application?

Or change your name by deedpole to match the original application. Sorted.
  • Hi
It's now been passed back to the underwriters? Is this normal? It was only an extra E?

The problem may be that the underwriters did all their searches based on on the wrong name. I agree it seems silly to go through the process again but that may be what happened.
  • So still no news on the mortgage name change front :/ how long does it take to redo the same mortgage! Honestly I could punch my advisor it's all his fault!

You have absolutely nothing whatsoever to worry about. They will conduct another credit check but as long as you are confident your credit history is nothing horrendous you will pass absolutely fine, let's remember the banks want to make money from you not to you away if possible. It will have to go to another underwriter because the circumstances have changed to some degree. This however is nothing to worry about because if your credit check is fine there is no other reason to turn it down as it was approved in the first place. It can take anything up to another week for another underwriter to progress your paperwork different banks work at different rates from my experience Halifax is the fastest and santander can be very slow. Relax sit back and wait for the offer to come back again because it absolutely will :)
If I were you I would be phoning my financial advisor every morning and every afternoon until I get the offer sadly you have to remember those who shouts loudest get things first
