British Gas Home Care fraud

Has anyone else been contacted by British gas Home Care(boiler insurance) saying that they are sorry they haven't taken payment in 7 months due to a computer error and that during the 7 months I have been fully covered. They also increased the monthly payment to recoup the lost 7 month payment.

This wouldn't be a problem, but 5 month ago I had phoned British Gas to report a fault with my radiator and the told me that my account was cancelled. After several phone calls I gave in and accepted that it was cancelled as I could no longer listen to the incompetence of the staff there.

So, now British gas have reappeared saying that I was fully covered during this time and actually took the increased payment from my bank the same day I got the letter, so no chance to cancel payment.

So the question is, is this fraud. They cancelled my account and cover and they are now saying that I was covered during this period and are now trying to take extra money from me to pay for a period I was not covered.

I apologise if I have not explained this very well, any advice appreciated.

You really couldn't make it up

OK - BG now want you to pay for a period when they failed to take D/Debits and refused to answer your call-out.

Is it the case that you had this radiator problem fixed by a local firm after BG refused to attend?
First thing is get onto your bank to recall the money BG have taken, (how much by the way?), then write to BG enclosing the bill from the local firm, advising them you are quite happy to pay money for the 'dead' period providing they re-imburse you the cost of the local frms bill by cheque

Probably first port of call is asking bg their view of it. I thought there were some contract problems last year where the contracts were restarted, but obviously if they have not communicated it and not given you a call out you would deserve some goodwill.
