  • Its been another crazy week at work, stayed late until 7pm last night and 9pm Monday night. On the plus side because we have been working around the clock my boss bought us all lunch and dinner. I have spent very little this week so I have £88 left in my weekly budget and £30 petrol money left.

I still need to get DS some Christmas presents so I can use the leftover money from my budget rather than dipping into my savings. Christmas shopping nearly all done, thankfully.
  • Nearly the end of a very busy week. I finished under budget this week to so have a little more tucked away to finish my Christmas shopping.

Since the weather turned bad a few weeks ago I have realised how horribly cold my new home is. It is soul destroying I cant keep it warm and I have ended up in bed every night before 8pm in an effort to keep warm. Don't think I can do another winter like this. I don't even know what to do to fix the problem as the walls have been pumped and more insulation has been fitted in the attic. I am really considering going to the bank and borrowing more money to fit new windows, install a fire and also put underfloor insulation down. My mortgage deal ends in August so if I wait to then I will hopefully be able to get a much better deal. At the minute I am paying £638 per month but pricing around I think I can get this down to £450, this would leave me room to then take out a home improvement loan.

Note to self, if ever househunting again the phrase "has potential" translates as needs a pile of money spent on it.:rotfl:

Weekly budget figures are as follows.
Budget £175 plus £65 from last week
    Emergency Fund £700.
cc owed £300 (will pay from emergency fund)
  • Things just seem to go from bad to worse, OH and I haven't spoke in two weeks, he hasn't paid any money into house for 2 weeks and when I got home yesterday from shop he had moved out. Feeling horrible but also relieved as we couldn't go on the way we were.

Hopefully he will take the opportunity to sort himself out because I can't take him back if he doesn't. Heading for a run now to clear my head.
  • So sorry to hear you're going through tough times. I hope some good luck comes your way soon.

  • Back at work which is helping me keep my mind of things. Still no word from OH and I don't intend to make contact with him. I suppose he has a lot of thinking to do and he needs to decide what he wants from life, me or drink.

In my bad temper last night, I took out a bolster and hammer and started knocking the plaster of the chimney breast in an attempt to try and open up the fireplace. After an hour I noticed I was getting nowhere so I am heading to the hire centre at lunch time to get a kangoo. I will have a fire for Christmas :)

I have put enough money aside to pay for a chimney sweep/additional works if I ever manage to find the opening in the chimney. A friend has offered me a free fireplace that he has lying in his shed.

Most of my Christmas shopping is also done so just need to get a secret Santa present for work and something for my niece.

I also booked myself a hairdressers appointment as a little Christmas present for me ;)

No Monz I am definetly not strong...just pig headed LOL

OH rang yesterday apologising for being an a$$, I told him he needs to sort himself out before he comes home he which has agreed to do. Watch this space...

I promised him the kids and I will still go to his graduation on Thursday so I need to go and look about an outfit. I have a meeting this afternoon in Belfast so might take the opportunity to look for something. I am also really tempted to buy a new car. I spotted a lovely black VW Jetta for sale for £9k. I am currently paying £112 per month for a 1.6l petrol focus which I hate. The Jetta only has 39k miles on it and it would cost me approximately £18 per week more. This would mean my monthly budget would reduce from £175 to £157 per week which is doable.

The car is £100 more expensive to insure but £100 cheaper to tax. Oh decision decisions.
  • Hi Maggie, just delurking to say sorry to hear about your OH worries. You've enough on your plate without OH adding to them.

I've got a VW Golf with slightly more miles but Ive had Vws for years now and I love them. This one is going to be my forever car hopefully as they go on and on. I think servicing may be more expensive, especially if a diesel but long term could be a good investment. I'm paying a lot for the golf, but would rather pay a bit more for something that's a pleasure to drive as I drive every day. Just make sure you get a good test drive and that it's got the power you want and all the extras you are use to.

  • Another eventful day yesterday, OH rang me yesterday morning to tell me his mother had been rushed to hospital, thankfully she was discharged yesterday afternoon, something to do with her heart which she has a lot of problems with.

Test drove the car yesterday and thought right I am definitely buying this. dealer offered me £1400 for my car which is worth at least £2400 and then quoted me £234 per month for payments on a £8850 loan over 4 years! so walked away.

Bought a new shirt yesterday in Zara for graduation tomorrow. Thought I would buy something I could wear to work, so at least I would get plenty of wear out of it.

Budget for the week is gone, roll on pay day tomorrow and hopefully Christmas Bonus. Trying not to get my hopes up but I got £1500 last year, which after Tax, NI and Student loans I had £900 left.
