Using Credit Cards to my Advanage?

Hi guys.

I have just left school and am having a gap year prior to going to uni.

From January next year I am planning to travel round the world for 6 months. I am in the middle of saving hard and think I can save about £3000, but I probably need more in the region of £5000. Hopefully I will be able to make the difference up with fundraising etc. However this is a trip of a lifetime, and something I am not going to miss out on.

I am just wondering if any credit cards can be used to my advantage? I'm not entirely sure how, maybe ie. to pay some of the costs before I leave, and not have to pay it off until I get back (work during next summer to pay it off).

There may be another way I am completely missing, maybe a card that I can use when abroad (I have read the MSE cards abroad page). The only problem is, if I am not at home for a few months, and have taken nearly all of my money with me, Im unsure as to how I would meet the payment each months.

Any ideas regarding cards, or possibly something else would be much appreciated!

I don't know how old you are but you can't get a CC until you are 18.
