Will previous estate agents disclose info?

I am interested in buying a property that I have discovered was previously marketed by another estate agent just 2 months ago. The new agents are asking for a much higher figure. Can the previous EA disclose any information relating to how long they marketed the property for or why they ended their contract?
Thank you.

  • I suspect not but why not ask them?

You may well find that sort of information on Zoopla anyway?

We were interested in a house and did just that. I rang them up and asked them about the house and discovered that a partner had left and set up his own business. The seller told the company he no longer wished to sell and then put it up for sale with the partner's new company. The previous agent was happy to tell me about the house.

they might. And other local agents may have an idea, too. Are you selling? I know when I was moving, my (selling) agent had quite a lot of background information about a couple of properties I considered.

They can disclose that information if they wish. But it sounds like you want the information to help you make an offer.

i.e. You want the previous EA to help you close a deal with the vendor that's just 'sacked' them, so that a competitor EA will earn a fee.

I'd be surprised if they'd do that. In fact, I'd even suspect that they may feed you 'mis-information' to hinder their competitor, and to spite their ex-client.

If you approach the old EA you risk creating a headache where both old and new agents claim they introduced you to the sale, leaving an annoying dispute for the vendor if they sell to you.

Probably not - based on the info provided. It sounds like, the old EA's contract period has terminated.

An EA can't keep introducing people (and expect a fee) once their contract is terminated.

(You may be thinking of problems when a buyer is introduced by one EA during their contract period, and the same buyer is 'introduced again' by a second EA, during the second EA's contract period.)
