Built-under double oven
Glastoun

Have only just realised that the big built-in double ovens displayed on the walls of appliances shops are too big to fit under a worktop. So it's either a single built-in oven, or a double built-under (similar to double built-in, but the bottom oven is smaller than you'd expect).
The only reason we would want a double would be to grill something at the same time as oven cooking something else. We don't really do massive turkey roasts, but even so I'm not sure whether the bottom oven would be too small in height for our casserole dishes.
Does anyone have a double built-under and is happy with it? Anything you've not been able to do because of it's size?
Anyone bought a single oven and regretted it?

I have a built under double oven because I use the grill for almost everything.
The only thing I haven't been able to cook is a huge turkey and the roasties at the same time but the top oven can be used as a smaller oven instead of being used as a grill.
I would NEVER buy a single oven."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0 -
Our 2004 built house, bought by us 3 years ago, has a built in Neff Double Oven.
The lower and bigger oven is fine for everything we do and easily takes large casserole dishes etc.
We hardly ever use the top, smaller oven and grill as we rarely grill food and we also have a large combination oven on the worktop.
Our previous house had a high level built in double oven.
We prefer a high level oven as we find it easier to use, especially as we are now both 62 and bending down to a low level oven isn't quite as easy as it once was. However it doesn't bother us enough to change the kitchen around.
Maybe when we hit 80 we might have to reconsider.0 -
We have a build under hotpot double oven and it is fab. Looks so much smarter than a single oven too0

I bought this: http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/built-in-appliances/built-in-cooking/ovens/built-under-ovens/hotpoint-ud53x-electric-built-under-double-oven-stainless-steel-21485735-pdt.html, and installed it a few weeks ago. I've been very happy with it.
We've not had to cook a Christmas dinner yet, but the bottom is a fan oven and the top is a conventional oven/grill.
It looks really nice too, with the reflective front it has a modern look to it.0 -
I have the following oven and have been very pleased with it.

I particularly like the enamel interior, as it is very easy to clean using 'Oven Pride'. I don't like the ovens with 'self clean' panels, as they are very hard to keep clean and after a couple of years look dreadful. HTH0 -
Thanks, that's all good to know. The people saying that built under doubles are too small have tended to be kitchen designers, who seem to assume you need to get a full roast dinner in there. Good to know they're fine for everyday use.0

This is the one we have too. I agree, it looks really nice. I've not cooked a Christmas dinner it yet, but have cooked a lot of roast dinners and it is absolutely fine! I often pinch the shelf out the top oven too if I'm baking so I can have 3 shelves of cakes on the go.0 -

We currently have a high level double oven and I use both ovens all the time - the top (32 litres) mostly for grilling and the bottom (60 litres) for baking but we're moving to a house with a single built-under oven and I've been really struggling to find a built-under with a full size main oven (most of them don't seem to have much difference between the cavity sizes).
I had been looking at this one http://ao.com/product/DUSF44X-Smeg-Cucina-Electric-Double-Oven-Stainless-Steel-28744.aspx but its so expensive that I'd kind of resigned myself to having to wait a while.0 -
Going from a double to a single oven, I mostly regretted not being able to warm plates in the top cavity.
If you only have a single oven could you use a 'George Foreman' if you needed extra cooking space? Or just a frying pan?A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -

Yep, just bought this one. Mainly because we went up the price scale to £450 and nothing really jumped out at us as being better or different - and this one had the largest bottom oven (sometimes by as much as 9 litres).
How did you install it? I assume it stands on the ground, but did you secure it to the cabinets either side?0
