Just spotted this:
Hitachi 37LD8500 37" LCD TV £439.95
http://www.richersounds.com/showproduct.php?cda=showproduct&pid=HITA-37LD8500
Seems like a good price.....just a shame its not the 37LD8700, could have got John Lewis to do a price match and had a free 5 yr warranty.

not bad but bear in mind it does not have a built in digital tuner so when the switch over occurs its useless unless you have sky or a freeview box attached to it0

Hi just to let you know the contrast ratio is very poor, but hey you get what you pay for.
Regards Mike0 -
Have got one from my local richer sounds for £439.95 + £44 for a 5 year insurance in total - I cancelled my order for a 32 inches Hannspree from dabs with free delivery promotion to get this.
Am very pleased with the sound; the contrast is a bit low at 800:1 but the picture quality is good.
Got this TV because my 30 inches Targa visionary is going for repair a second time (cost £900 from lidl in Feb 2005). Previous fault was picture no sound and the current fault is sound with no picture - Lesson is, you need to have warranty with these (even Phillips and Sony have their own problems).
Will sell my Targa once repaired (for about £250, with 4 months warranty remaining) and purchase another Hitachi.
By the way, what is the difference between the LD500, LD600 and LD700 models?0 -
Hitachi do not actually make any TV's any more, they are just re-badged items, usually not of a very high standard, same applies to their camera's.0

We had a Hitachi portable bought in 1983 which had a fantastic picture - we only chucked it last year because the sound was going a bit. However, I believe Inactive is correct - Hitachi tv's are now assembled in Turkey I think. Many 'budget' tv's seem to be Hitachi under a different name. I always look up the model at:

Almost correct, read all Hitachi TV's are budget TV's with a Hitachi badge stuck on them.;)
I agree about old proper Hitachi TV's, they were brilliant, but alas they are now just cheap old " tosh ". with a Hitachi badge.0 -
