Tues 29th July - What small DFW things will you be doing today?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym .

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending .

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important.

    Morning folks,

    Another early start from me.

The giant big shop yesterday turned out to be worse in my head than on paper. Only came to £67 - this will be enough food for at least 2 weeks and a lot of it was staples like flour.

In other news though, the car has developed a strange tinny rattle. OH is taking it to the garage today. I hope it's not expensive.

But on the positive side, I checked my online banking this morning and found that my health insurance had paid my non-smokers' cash back in. It's £30 a quarter for gold status members - I forgot all about it so it was a nice surprise .

    Today's list:
    • Check online banking (pleasantly surprised) - done
    • B/L/D from stores
    • Overtime
    • Hope that car not expensive to fix - going to garage tomorrow
    • Start thinking about August's budget - got a lot of stuff going on this month - made a start. Terrifying.
    • Water plants with water saved from shower - done
    • Charge phone in work - done
Right, best set to. Lunch ain't gonna make itself!

    Have a good one all

  • Morning carrie thanks for starting us off! Hope the car is minor! Some !!!!!! crashed into my car at the weekend. Only found out when I returned to the car & found a massive dent in it
Luckily it's not the only dent it has.... :p

LPP thanks for asking, I love my new job! It's quite hard to go from being the boss to not being! And I think there is some work to do before we are working as a strong team - there's only me, my boss & the accountant. I need to think clearly about how I frame those discussions as there have been a couple of times when I have felt undermined by my boss. These are really communication issues but it's bugging me!

One major bonus of my job is I get a breakfast at 10.30 & lunch (which often is a dinner) so my food spends has gone down :T

I haven't been posting as have soooooo little time these days & am haemorrhaging money at the moment. Need to dust my budgeting skills off!

    DFW things for today:
    * check banking
    * B/L at work :D
    * go and purchase work boots (work paying) as I am going to a festival at the weekend and one day has a 90s theme fancy dress so going to go as Lara Croft (obviously 20 years later! :rotfl:)
    * check onepoll if I get a minute
    * return a gift dgd got for her birthday that's not working
    * dgd has lo shepherds pie & hm courgette cake for lunch
    * text dd about going to a friend's for dinner tomorrow
    * call Tesco about missing parcel
    * silicone bathroom tonight
    * maybe go for a jog if oh doesn't mind/isn't going out. If he does/is I will do an exercise dvd at home (via youtube)
    * think of more courgette based recipes to use up the glut!
    * hang up washing

Ok better go! Have a great day x

    Morning DFW-Jedis,

Thanks for the starter CarrieLovesFanta. I am up early-ish to have another shot at my Masterplan For World Domination. Basically I have a huge list of stuff to over the next five days; some of it fun and some of it essential. Yesterday I managed to do most of the list which has spurred me on with today's epic quest. So here I go:

Masterplan For World Domination Day Two:

:D Check online banking. 71p forgotten cashback paid. Yay!

:D Keep an eye on the book I'm trying to sell on eBay. Not sold yet.

    :D Do Nectar AdPoints. Done

    :D Do i-Say surveys. Done.

:D Await reply from local Country Park about getting two free places at a lizard spotting event. (OH is a photographer.) We got places. Yay!

:D Make own Tortilla wraps. Deferred til tomorrow.

:D Do some photography with OH when it gets dark tonight. Too tired last night.

:D Clear up an issue with OH's Self-Assessment. Deferred til tomorrow.

:D Clear up two issues with last employer. Yay, making progress with getting holiday paid and references with the correct date on them!

:D Continue knitting hot water bottle cover.

:D Continue listening to audio tape from OH's HUGE box of stories. Raid box for more tapes. Done

:D Investigate underwear drawer to see if I can get away without buying any new stuff. There may be some newer stuff trapped at the back! Need to throw away a lot (compost bin?) but actually only need to buy two new garments.

:D We didn't buy enough paint to do finish our back step and now the shop is out of stock. :o See if we can thin the paint sufficiently to finish the job. Nope, going to need to source more paint.

:D Deep clean the broom cupboard using minimal products and washable cloths. Yuk! Done. Iron sole plate needed cleaning. Tackled with Astonish from PoundShop.

:D Tidy wardrobe and rotate garments instead of buying new clothes. Done.

:D Deep clean vase collection and fill with 'free' flowers from the garden. Will use Stardrops, if this fails will use Tesco's-Own-Steradent. Done. Amazing transformation for 5p!

:D Go for a free run if dodgy shoulder permits. Done. Need to get OH to coach me tomorrow.

:D Clean junk off mobile and Kindle to make both run faster and more efficiency. Done

:D Investigate prices of fold-up bicycles out of curiosity. Would like to use the car less. Some reasonable prices on eBay, but most of them are collection only and as we live miles from anywhere there aren't any near us. Will check other suppliers next week.

:D Go kite flying if we get enough wind. No wind!

:D Look back through old photos with a view to entering some into competitions. Done. Thanks for the heads up on another competition Ziggy.

:D Sharpen scissors instead of buying new ones. Done.

Well that's me for today. Good luck on your quests, Jedis.

Luckily it's not the only dent it has.... :p

DeterminedNewMS, years ago someone did the same to me putting a foot long dent in my driver's side door. I took the inside door panel off to expose the dent, then gently put my booted foot in the dent and kicked it outwards. Most of the dent came out.

You can also buy a Dent Puller suction cup (Link); our local PoundShop has them sometimes. My sister once used a YouTube video and a sink plunger to rescue her bodywork.

Depends how precious you are about your car as to whether you want an 'expert' to do it for you. :rotfl:

  • Hello all,
At work again and earning not spending :T
Today OH gave me a lift in and hopefully will collect me too (dread having to get the bus as it is unreliable and takes 8 times as long as the car - on a good day).
Breakfast at home, about to have my packed lunch and dinner is from the plan (sausages, spuds and veg).
    No spending today.

Later I will do some domestic stuff - laundry, cleaning, ironing as will be on strike next week during our staycation.

All our cars have been remodelled by me - usually on the concrete pillars at the local supermarket car park. OH finally realised that swearing at me didn't have any effect and, very politely, asked me if I could possibly park elsewhere. I haven't dented it since :rotfl:.

    Best wishes all x

  • Thanks for all the car wishes :) the garage is full today so it's going in tomorrow. I've asked OH not to drive it in the meantime. I hope it's just something loose.

DNMS - I feel for you. We went away for a weekend a couple of years ago and someone reversed into our car. We came back to find bits of it across the road :(

Ally - love your "world domination" plan. I don't even have domination over my hair most of the time :rotfl:

    Good Morning All

carrielovesfanta - Thanks for starting us off today
dnms - glad the job is going well and that you are happier

Hi to all of the regulars and a BIG welcome to all the newbies, this is a really FAB thread with so many lovely, caring, considerate and supportive people.

Well I had a lazyish yesterday and didnt achieve much off the list but I stripped all the wallpaper from DS's room and took down the curtains (the heat seems to be wearing me out so have lots of rest breaks :( ) so will try and achieve a few more bits and call this my weekly list instead of a daily list:

Packed lunches for DH - Done
Washing in & line dry - Done (loving this fab weather - curtains from sons room drying nicely on line)
    Start planning shopping list -
Wrap 3 birthday pressies (from stash) - Done
Check calendar so I dont miss any birthdays/etc while we are away in Aug -
Finish adapting sons trousers into shorts (lovely pair of chinos that were scuffed and grubby round ankles despite lots of scrubbing) - Done
    Filing & Shredding -
    Check Banks - Done
    Check swapits - Done
Ask OH nicely to fill "holes" in DS's room -
    Nectar Adpoints -
Sort emails (& unsubscribe where possible) -
All meals from cupboards/fridge/freezer - Done
Bake (while making tea) - Done
Re-list bits for sale - Done
    Read book (from stash) -
    Craft -
    Check www.freepostcodelottery.com - Done

Have a great day, love you all xx

    :wave:Hello

Late check in for me- work, work and more work.... getting very tired and jaded :(, at least next week I'm taking a few days off to go to Donegal to attend a family (in-laws:cool:) gattering. Hence, I rather go to work than go to it, bah-humbag!:p

Carrie- YAY on the suprise £30- I love to find suprises like that. Today I found a suprise 50p payout from topcashback- I will move it into my ISA LOL.:rotfl:

DNMS- about the !!!!!! who dented your car! Hope it will be not too expensive to fix it, but :eek:about an unnecesseray cost!

DawnW- It sounds like Sainsbury's CC got a very poor customer serice and no business sense for messing you around! I'm sure it's feels like hitting a brick wall when you can't get through to them :wall:- make sure you write a detailed complaint and good luck!

    Not a lot happening here:
:starmod:Evening off with OH- a very 'exciting' meal at McD's followed by movie on Netflix (hoping not to fall a sleep:o)- really tired.

:starmod:Free tea & biscuits in work, and a cheeky hot sponge and custard(free):D

:starmod:Check if wages arrived to our account- my OH's wages still hasn't show up.

:starmod:Dig something out from our bottomless freezer for tomorrow- I'm working tomorrow all day again, so its have to be something easy and fast, something even my OH can make

:starmod:Find geranium seeds I bought not too long ago- I love these plants :grinheart and are easy to grow and flower year after year, helping to keep gardening costs down. :T

That's it for now, hope you all have a productive day!
