Halifax debit card fees and how to avoid them?

This month I racked up over 20 quid on debit card fees. I presume I have been using an ATM that charges a fee but this isn't clear on the statement.

Other than using Halifax atm's how can I ensure that I at least minimize these charges.

update: The debit fees appear at the top/first page of my statement, it is not clear where the fees arise from or how many fees i have encountered. its only a total sum. I never use the atms in convenience stores as I would expect them to charge a fee. I believe that I have been using an ulster bank atm mainly. It says they dont charge a fee but your bank might. It seems that halifax do charge a fee.

Also am I picking up fees elsewhere, for instance if I pay with my card in a shop?

Thanks advance

If an ATM is charging you a fee the ATM will tell you.

Try reading the screen before completing a transaction. Or stick to ATMs connected to a high street bank branch.

What's the description(s) on your statement?
Any chance you could scan/photograph/get a pdf file of your statement and post a copy up here (personal details removed obviously!)?

I'm not aware that Halifax charge fees to use their debit cards. Are you sure this isnt interest on an overdraft, or perhaps you mean a credit card?
Debt Free! Long road, but we did it

I did read somewhere that the Halifax could, at its discretion, charge for cash withdrawals if not using a Halifax ATM - but I thought this was targeted towards Cardcash type accounts.
Never argue with an idiot. Especially not this idiot because I'm always right anyway.

I've got a Halifax cardcash account and very rarely get charged for using other Banks ATM's, other than the ones you usually get in convenience stores which advise you before you proceed that they are going to charge you.
