You don't have a credit score, hence not being able to rebuild it.

Do you have any active credit accounts at all showing on your credit file?

You say you have a decent salary so have you any savings to buy the car ?

    No need for the catalogues.

So what old/settled accounts does it show? You say there's nothing at all on there but thought I should check. Does it show you as on the electoral roll at your address?
  • ive just got on to a decent salary and look to save split across the mortgage deposit fund and a car fund

    no savings at present
  • ive never been on electoral roll previously so have just registered

i am not using a service currently to check my credit

You should definitely get your statutory reports from Experian and Equifax (and register for Noddle's free service). Without knowing what's on your file we're not really able to help you.

But being on the electoral roll is a huge must, although it may take a couple of months to be updated on your credit file.

3 years minimum is advisable for a mortgage.

Take a look at Nationwides Save to Buy scheme. A good way of building brownie points directly. Halifax also offer a scheme for FTB's.
