Help! Credit Card "outstanding debt" sold on

Hi there I am hoping you guys may be able to give me some advice/guidance on the following scenario

Got home on Friday evening and wife has received a letter from a "debt collection" firm stating that Debenham's (Santander Card) have sold her "debt" onto them with an outstanding balance of £122.11p.

The thing is my wife cleared her Debenham's card approximately 3 years ago and has had no correspondence with them since regarding any outstanding balance on the card or default on payment. Also nothing came up on her experian file which she checked approximately 12 months ago.

Sadly as we have just moved house we cleared the "cleared" paperwork out but my wife kept the details of the card and acct number which is good so we have details of the acct yet not the paper bills.

Any idea of the best way forward on this as we've never received anything like this before.

Thanks

:)

I'd ask for proof of debt - how that figure was derived. Then you'll know if it was simply an honest mistake on either your or their part.

I suppose there's nothing stopping you calling Santander or NewDay (who took over the Debenhams card).

    Does seem strange though that:

    1) You've had no contact
    2) You cleared the balance
    3) It's a fairly specific figure outstanding
Never argue with an idiot. Especially not this idiot because I'm always right anyway.

Yes a bit odd as we definately havent received any correspondance at all over the last 3 years regarding any of this at all.

To be honest my wife is on the ball with things like this so it doesnt seem to add up.

Thanks for the advice its much appreciated.
