Applying for credit card after landing a new job

I've been working at my new full time job for about a month having come from a part time job. I'm looking to apply for a new balance transfer card now that I'm earning a higher income and should be eligible for longer 0% deals. I was wondering whether there's a certain amount of time i would need to wait before my salary is updated with the taxman and i can apply for a new card without too much fear of rejection?

Lenders would only be able to verify your salary via a wage slip, not directly with HMRC. More than likely they'd ask for a wage slip, I'd think they'd also like you to have the job for atleast 4/6 months beefore you apply to show some kind of stability x

If you've been with the same employer and haven't applied for any other credit lately (i.e. no Hunter data to cross reference) then you should be ok to apply now.

The question is typically 'how long with your current employer' not 'how long have you earned your current salary'.

The only issue potentially is if you applied for credit within the last twelve months on your old salary. This is because applications go through a system called Hunter which compares recent application data with data in your current application - worst case is it'll spit out a material difference and then the provider should ask for wage slips - but could ultimately be a straight forward decline.

But, as per previous poster, if you have moved employer to get your new salary, well yes, I'd wait a few months. Stability looks good!
Never argue with an idiot. Especially not this idiot because I'm always right anyway.
  • Thanks for your advice. I've been with my current employer 2 months and I have applied for a credit card within the last 12 months.

My problem is I'm trying to clear the debt on my current credit card of which I'm paying 25.95% interest. Does it make sense to save as much as I can for 4-6 months, try to get a balance transfer than use the saved money on a new 0% credit card while paying the minimum on the current credit card. Or should I throw everything I can at my current credit card?
