For the first time, I've now got 2 cars, a workhorse & a weekend plaything. Neither are particularly worth much, the most expensive being about £4k.
I'm looking for the cheapest way of insuring. If possible, I'd like to get a single policy or at least have the same start dates for both cars.
Obviously can't use the comparision sites as there's no way of putting in details for 2 cars at once. Or could it be cheaper to get separate policies, maybe even with different companies?
There must be people on the forum in the same situation so can anyone give advice?
Thanks in advance.

Same start dates, Unlikely. Unless you pay short term rates to bring them together,
You only have one set of no claims then one will have zero no claim. Some companies may mirror them but check 1st it may not be the cheapest.
A classic policy maybe an option, depends on the car and whether you have it garaged at night.
Ive insured all sorts of cars for £100 or so a year, Agreed value and i retain the salvage if i make a claim etc.
No claims are not required, Although having a main vehicle maybe. And with my policies it must be garaged at night.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Difficult! I have separate policies, and most treat them as such as you will not get an NCD across both of them, one will be at your current rate, and the additional one will start at zero or perhaps some introductory rate. Concurrent start dates also mean having to pay both so staggering them is often better (same too for the a Tax Disk).
Use your NCD on the car with the highest premium.0 -
I'm sure Churchill give a discount for a second car so other insurance companies might.
If the weekend car is classic, definitely look into specialist insurance as I paid £160 a year which includes breakdown coverQuidco Earnings (since Dec 06): £467.750 -
OH had a 6 wheel policy to cover motorbike and car which was cheaper because he couldn't ride both at same time.
However next year he had a quote with LV for them separately and saved £200.~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)

Although you cannot get a combined quote on comparison sites on both Aviva and Admiral websites you can include 2 or more cars and drivers. If possible, I'd like to get a single policy or at least have the same start dates for both cars.
Even with multicar insurance you may have one account but they are treated as two separate policies within that account.
If it was indeed only one policy what would you expect to happen to that policy if you reverted to only one car. Also you need two policies to build up two separate NCD.
With the two mentioned companies you can start the policies on the same date or even start on different dates but end up on the same renewal date.0
