August holiday in Tenerife - airconditioning or just ceiling fan?

Hi, our first holiday abroad in years - we've booked flights to Tenerife for the last week in August and have narrowed our options for self catering appts to two: one at the Sol Sun Beach Apartments with a ceiling fan in the living room and the bedroom, and one at Sunset Harbour Club with airconditioning. DH likes the look of Sol Sun Beach and I like the look of Sunset Harbour.
DH's question is, will we need aircon in Tenerife in August?

Ceiling fans should be ok, had them in Saudi Arabia, where the temps were around 40C+. Aircon dries your skin out.As Manuel says in Fawlty Towers: " I Know Nothing"0

Ask on the Tenerife forum message board on Tripadvisor. They'll soon tell you - plenty of expats who live over there, and lots of regular travellers, too.

I think this is a personal preference question rather then one which has a correct yes or no answer. As with loveshshp I lived in a very hot country in Central America and managed without Air Con but I suspect that's because you become acclimatised over time. I would still argue that going from hot outside to an Air Conditioned cool inside all day is not healthy and its better to just try to adjust to living in the hot climate, and of course enjoy it. I do know however that for some this is not possible and especially for sleeping at night a cool room is essential.
The main question that you may not be able to assess until you get there is assuming that it will be hot, how cool does the apartment and the bedroom stay? This can depend on which direction it faces for direct sunlight etc, how its constructed and whether there is any natural breeze that circulates.
My personal view would be go for ceiling fans, try to adjust your stay to acclimatise, and enjoy the heat which is presumably why you are going.0 -

A/C every time.
If it's a scorcher - and August is the hottest month in Tenerife - you'll be grateful for a cool bedroom at night and added protection against mosquitoes.0 -
All companies take a swipe of you card first to make sure the hotel has been paid for, else they would be left with a hotel room and the canx fees if you don't have the funds.
I always phone to book, same price and at least you know it's booked there and then. Too many problems with online bookings, I sometimes think customers think there is a little person inside the computer doing the bookings lol! and don't realise they mostly go into a queue to be picked up and booked manually after you have booked.0
