Usual rubbish from those that can't drive. A very small engine required a lot of acceleration just to keep up with traffic. I've a few different engine sizes in different cars. The bigger ones plod on happily in fourth, when the 1 L needs to be changed down and floored. Let's see what Hastings say on this.0

It's true, back when I had a little 1l engine I often had to put my foot right down in a low gear just to keep up with traffic. These stupid boxes look at where the throttle is, among other things, so get confused. They are a scam, they don't work properly and actually favour bad driving.0

Hi
We have just purchased a car which already had one fitted, and the first days useage is concerning.
The engineer is due out to check the paperwork, but as the box is already in the car they do not need to look at it. Maybe it is not sitting right?
I drove like a granddad to see how these boxes report and the braking and acceleration rating is terrible..
The other stats are as expected, as I did not speed, and stuck to daytime.

Could she be accelerating too slowly maybe?
As someone has mentioned above you can fail a test for failing to progress and too slow acceleration might show a lack of confidence driving.0 -
I am very upset after reading the email from Hasting Direct SmartMiles, threatening to take £152 from my credit card within 7 days and if I don't pay up, they will ruin my perfect credit history.
I made the mistake of putting 8 years No Claim Bonus instead of 9 and the woman operative told me that according to the live rate this moment, I will have to pay £159.53 (£25 admin fee) on top of the £800 plus I paid last month (my son is 19). I was very shaken. I kept telling the woman that I did not inflate the figure with a view to lowering the premium. I made a genuine mistake of giving 8 years instead of 9 which is what I have. Why on earth should I pay more when I have one MORE year of NCB. The tone of the email is plain nasty. Please read:
Additional Premium £134.93 Your change caused your premium to increase
Administration Fee £25.00 As stated in our Terms and Conditions
Amount due £159.93
Please contact our Customer Service team. If we
do not hear from you in the next 7 days we will
collect this amount using your securely held card
details. If we are unsuccessful your policy may
be cancelled and the amount shown will be
passed to a debt collection agency and your
credit rating may be affected.
I hope anybody reading this take this as a lesson - I wish I had stayed with my previous insurer. Be very careful of the number of NCB as even if you want to play safe, you need to pay more for having MORE years of actual NCB!
Beware of this company. It is NO JOKE!
I wonder the CEO knows how people feel when they get a letter like that after just parting nearly £900! Does he think money grow on tree!0 -
Well, at least you've posted on a thread with a degree of relevance this time, but you'd still have been better starting your own. Posting the same thing on multiple threads is frowned on.0

It does seem very odd to get a premium increase for declaring more NCB, how did they find out about the discrepancy?
You mentioned your son being 19, so presumably you have him on the policy as an additional driver. Will he be the main user? You are going to have to be very careful here - Smartmiles is a telematics policy so a box will be fitted to your car which will track how, where and when the car is driven, so if your son uses the car to commute to work or college everyday it will be visible to your insurer. If something like this happens then a snotty letter about £150 will be the least of your worries....All matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves.0 -

Sorry for that as I did not know how to post. I searched high and low and was hungry, hot and sweaty at that point. I watched the video twice and still did not have a clue. Even now, I don't even know how I managed to post a new thread.0 -

I asked for the NCB letter and I didn't get it until very late. It was shown the fitter of the box. Or the insurers talk to each other. I have no idea. My son can't possible drive from Romford to Canterbury every day. My son drives the car twice a week or even two weeks. He will be home in June and will change universities after that. I wish I had stuck with more th>n. After reading all the horror stories, not to say being the subject of one saga, I will steer well clear of this company!0 -

So however you deal with this don't give them the opportunity to cancel!0
