I live in a village and use BT broadband with a 10GB/month allowance. Have found that I am in a BT hotspot. How safe is this for emails and banking?

It may be your BT broadband that is providing the hotspot - check out the BT Fon facility.

Generally, I use BT hotspots for email and forums, etc when away from home, but not financial stuff - I'm on the cautious side!

When dealing with a secure site, like banking, the data is encrypted on your PC before being sent.

A BT Hotspot is just another WiFi access point and is fine to use for banking etc.
