Best thing we got for my father in law for when he was home after his hip replacement op was a hospital type trolley table that he could pull over his lap infront of him. This meant he could basically do whatever he needed to (eating, puzzles, jigsaws, even work on his laptop etc) without having to go and sit at the dining room table. We got it off ebay and was only about £15 delivered. It now is used in the corner of the room to sit the printer on!

The problem with that idea is that it might encourage too much immobility. All the physios will now tell you 'do NOT sit still in one position for too long, get up and move around at least every hour on the hour'.

What was wrong with sitting at the dining-room table?

My older (non internet) relatives always appreciate the word search, crossword or puzzle books, when in hospital.

Don't worry about exercise, as the physio's/OT's should be ensuring they do that, in between.

You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset. ;)

The. Other in law wouldn't allow it! It's only for eating at and only then with a padded vinyl cover, a table cloth, and then place mats, all of which have to be removed immediately after the meal is finished. It doesn't get used that often because of that,it's more a show room!

He definitely didn't sit still for long, he was cooking 3 course meals single handedly not long after getting out of hospital and carrying cups of tea on his crutches! A person is only as immobile as they want to be the majority of the time, recent operation or not!
