On a DMP, will claiming affect it?

I'm in a DMP and Barclays is a creditor of mine in that I owe them money on two Barclaycards and a current account (Now closing)
I am annoyred because my current account was overdrawn, but subsequent charges by Barclays tipped it over the OD limit despite them being informed I was looking to start a DMP and wanted the account closed and interest frozen back in March.
I am considering making a complaint about the charges applied to my account over the last 6 years as they have contributed greatly to the misery of my debt situation, but I am worried that if I do so, it could affect my DMP. If they granted a full or partial repayment of my fees, I would expect them to simply remove them from the debt I owe them and I'd be fine with that.
Anyone know?

You can hardly demand that interest be frozen and the bank will only close the account when you no longer have a negative balance.Meatloaf1981 wrote: »I am annoyred because my current account was overdrawn, but subsequent charges by Barclays tipped it over the OD limit despite them being informed I was looking to start a DMP and wanted the account closed and interest frozen back in March.
You can certainly request that some bank charges are refunded due to your undoubted financial hardship. However, the chances of them refunding six years of charges are slim-six months is the more typical timescale.0 -

You dont get to dicatate terms. The bank does. Did the bank agree to freeze interest?
The bank cannot close an account that is not at nil balance.I am considering making a complaint about the charges applied to my account over the last 6 years as they have contributed greatly to the misery of my debt situation
They probably have to some extent but they wouldnt have been incurred at all had you not spent the money. There is little point being annoyed with the bank as looking at your overall debt, they did not cause that. You need to be a little more practical and less angry with others.
You need to make a request for help under financial hardship. The bank will look at your budget, spending habits and overall financial situation and will come up with a solution form a range of options it has open to it. This could be a part refund. it could be suspending interest and charges for x months into the future. They may also feel that no action is required if you are entering a DMP as they will see how that progresses.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Ok, let me be clear. I made no demands. I sent them a letter in March informing them I was in financial difficulty and would be looking to commence a DMP. I asked them to consider my circumstances, detailed in full to them (Along with an SOA) and would they kindly consider freezing my account whilst they considered my DMP repayment terms.
They would not acknowledge receipt of the letter until June (Thought I had proof of receipt) and never sent me a response to my request, hence my somewhat bitter feelings about being lumbered with more debt and charges that were not within my own power to avoid.Original Total: £34200.78 / Current Total: £24017.00 (July 2017) -29.88%!
