Protect your bubble - replacement iphone

Options
My iphone 5 developed some faults and I sent it in to pyb for repair. After they sent the phone back, not fully repaired and I complained, PYB decided to send me a replacement.

DPD delivered the phone in a box that looked much like the original except it was marked "refurbished". It was sealed with the standard transparent plastic as the original does when it comes from factory. Up until now, everything was normal. But then, the DPD driver insisted that since this was a "like for like replacement" I had to give him my original box or else we could not do the doorstep exchange.

I refused to exchange my box, as the replacement box clearly stated "refurbished" and did not have the same images found on original box.

Since i refused to give him my old (original) box, he opened the transparent wrapper, took out the refurbished phone and replaced it with mine.

I didn't think much of it at the time other than I'd never heard of such a thing... until I started thinking... That box was a little heavy, perhaps it came with a replacement USB cable & charger.

So I am wondering:

1. Have you experienced this odd "like for like" speech from DPD or PYB which required you to turn in your old BOX or else the delivery driver would open your new/refurbished box and keep it?

2. Have you ever received a refurbished replacement? If so, did the box come with replacement accessories?

We use iphones at work and broken ones are replaced by the operator - DPD turn up and generally do a swap taking old phone and giving a replacement - even official operator (think it's O2) send out official refurbs - just make sure your old phone (if possible) is properly wiped - delete all personal data and accounts, then factory reset it - there are cases of phones being sent out to new customers with old data on them

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

When you get the replacement, does the box usually come with anything else?

My old phone was out of warranty since september 2013 and this replacement (refurb) that i got came with a full year's Apple warranty (according to the apple website), which is strange. So i'm thinking PYB sent me a "purchased refurb"

It's been a little while since I have seen one but as far as I remember we've generally just swapped the phone over and the courier took the box away if we didn't have the original box to hand - I do remember seeing one with a box clearly marked as refurb as I mentioned it to the IT guy but as the person whose phone is playing up is usually keen to get going straight away I don't see inside the boxes :)

I think it's fairly normal for a new or refurb phone to come with manufacturer warranty for a period, varies from place to place, one company I deal with (for desk phones) does 60 days warranty on their repaired kit!

Thanks for the heads up. Just called PYB and they confirmed that refusing to hand me the box was odd, but that they don't "think" there were any accessories inside the box.
