    I didn't with someone else :o

I had all pm's switched off. I switched them on again to send the PM.

I then switched them off again

Now for some silly reason I thought because I had sent someone a PM they could PM me back even though they were switched off kind of over ride the system :o

I know tech is not my thing really

Also someone could have their PM's switched on allowed people to PM them only, send the PM to someone not on their allowed list & forget to add them to the allowed list so they can reply

And yes I've also done that one too! :o

P.S The OP is not talking about me these were different situations but just thought other than showing myself up as computer numpty I would say what I did because it could be the reason why it's being done by others

I 100% agree with Biker*Chick on this one. OP - could you just clear something up for me - has the pm'er ever raised a valid query where you've been minded to change the answer you already had? I'm guessing the answer to that is a big fat NO - in which case your pm'er is stirring the brown stuff and that's the only possible explanation.
As Biker*Chick suggested - this person should desist at once and go forth and fornicate - and on the way buy a copy of the magazine for themself then spend a load of time doing the puzzles.
Sorry - this person is trouble making and that is all.

EEK! Not sure I quite suggested THAT form of action CheCazzo! :rotfl: :rotfl:

Just to add, at least fire**fly has brought this issue to the attention of people via CCC, and therefore everyone should now be aware of what happens when they switch PMs off, and that they can add people individually to their 'allowed' list if necessary.

It is very basic etiquette in the real world - so why should the MSE forum be any different? - to ensure someone you are prepared to PM is also 'allowed' to reply to you by return PM.

fire**fly - your choice is plain...keep on being super kind and scanning/posting the solved puzzle pics on your thread, or 'ignore' the person PM'ing you when you can't reply, or just make a quick post in CCC stating you have had a query to a puzzle that you believe is 100% correct (and can't reply - just like this very thread!! lol) and asking if anyone else who has the mag is happy to corroborate your answers.

i.e. Don't waste more time than you have to by dealing with queries that are, at best, misguided and, at worst, meant to disrupt your valuable time spent on the boards :)

For the record I am happy to register that it was MY wish that the PM'er would go forth and fornicate at his/her earliest convenience and NOT Biker*Chicks suggestion!
    I was typing too fast!:mad::mad:

thanks everyone for the great help & replies :A
I agree it seems unfair that peeps can send pm's but are allowed to have their pm's replys not enabled,
& have taken all the replies on board,

Can't say I'd waste my time if this is some sort of serial time waster - can't the regular mag posters that keep getting pm's block this person (is it even possible to just block 1 person from sending pm's?) if they are just out to waste time (presuming they don't actually have a valid point in keep querying everything that is)..

There's a lot of weirdness around that's for sure..

I've not got this yet... If I did, and I knew my answer was right, I'd ignore the PM entirely. If someone is that disrespectful, they don't deserve any attention to be paid to them.

I will add that I do dislike people who tell me an answer is wrong or they want me to change the title of the thread, without sounding at least vaguely grateful for my answers. As Mclarkie said:

hopefully you won't get them Jessie,
thing is it's sometimes tricky to establish if the person is being disrespectful or not,
as said the messages are not rude or offensive just querying
    answers given,
if I ignore the message it could be that it may be a peeps who's genuinely just asking as they sign in most times with a new account but we think it's the same person because of the content/paragraphs of the messages,

anyway, big thanks to all of you for the helpful replies
    & input :A

Perhaps the forum software should be tweaked so PMs can always be replied to regardless of other settings.

this ^^^ I think mjm summed it up &
hopefully one day the forum will be able to 'tweak' the settings,
if a poster can send messages I think it's only fair
the settings should allow for us to be able to reply
    to them x

I am reasonable certain that the default setting is to receive PM's so they are not off by accident.
Why would a "new" member switch them off when clearly, as a new member, they would not have been on the receiving end of anything nasty?
